DTN Early Word Grains 08/21 05:54 China Hits Markets Again December corn was unchanged, November soybeans were 6 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 3 cents lower. By Darin Newsom DTN Senior Analyst 6:00 a.m. CME Globex: December corn was unchanged, November soybeans were 6 cents lower, and December Chicago wheat was 3 cents lower. CME Globex Recap: More bearish economic news out of China had global markets on the defensive overnight. Reportedly, China's factory activity fell to a 6 1/2 year low in August, triggering a continued slide in world equities and spilling over into grains. Soybeans once again bore the brunt of the bearish news, erasing about half of Thursday's rally through early Friday morning. OUTSIDE MARKETS: The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 358.04 points lower Thursday at 16,990.69. Asian markets were lower with the Nikkei down 597.69 points (3%) at 19,435.83. China's Shanghai Composite was down 156.65 points (4.3%). European markets were also lower. The U.S. dollar index was 0.454 lower at 95.526. Crude oil was $0.19 lower at $41.13 while Brent crude was $0.29 lower at $46.33. December gold was $2.40 lower at $1,150.80. Soybeans at the Dalian Exchange were mostly lower while Malaysian palm oil futures were lower.
