The short-week offering appears to be somewhat larger than last week with only Texas showing more ready steers and heifers. We have seen a few preliminary bids of $117 in Kansas. Asking prices are not well defined in the early rounds. Significant trade volume is not likely to surface until sometime Wednesday. Beef cut-outs at midday are mixed, up .67 (select: $188.52) to off $1.68 (choice: $205.56) with light box movement (ch: 25 lds; sel: 10 lds; trim: 11 lds; ground beef: 13 lds). Live and feeder futures are sharply lower near the top of the new hour, pressured by long liquidation and larger than expected October placement news.
