DTN Early Word Grains 08/16 05:54 Grains Mostly Higher to Start Week December corn is down 1 3/4 cents per bushel, November soybeans are up 5 3/4 cents, and September KC wheat is up 4 3/4 cents. Dana Mantini Senior Market Analyst Pre-6 a.m. Globex Prices: December corn is down 1 3/4 cents per bushel, November soybeans are up 5 3/4 cents, and September KC wheat is up 4 3/4 cents. CME Globex Recap: Equity markets are weaker around the globe overnight with U.S. futures suggesting a lower open later Monday morning. Financial markets are likely to take a back seat this week to the fallout in Afghanistan as the Taliban forced out the government and took control of the capital over the weekend. It isn't clear the implications for energy markets just yet, but a more unstable Middle East isn't likely to be a good thing long-term. Energy markets are mostly weaker overnight with crude oil futures down just over 1.0%. The U.S. Dollar Index is slightly firmer overnight, remaining above long-term moving averages. Metals are weaker overnight, led by copper, which is down 1.5%. Grain markets are mostly higher with the exception of corn futures which have struggled after posting initial gains at the Sunday night open. Wheat futures are leading the grain room overnight, and this could be a feature moving forward given tightening supplies globally. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes on Friday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 15.53 at 35,515.38 and the S&P 500 up 7.17 at 4,460.83 while the 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 1.297%. Early Monday, the September DJIA futures are down 79 points. Asian markets are mixed with Japan's Nikkei 225 down 453.96 (-1.62%) and China's Shanghai Composite up 1.05 points (0.03%). European markets are lower with London's FTSE 100 down 58.31 points (-0.81%), Germany's DAX down 81 points (-0.51%) and France's CAC 40 down 45.92 points (-0.67%). The September Euro is down 0.001 at 1.180 and the September U.S. dollar index is up 0.063 at 92.575. The September 30-Year T-Bond is up 14/32nds, while December gold is down $1.20 at $1,777.00 and September crude oil is down $0.70 at $67.74. Soybeans on China's Dalian Exchange were up 2.14% while soybean meal was up 2.12% and corn was up 0.19%.
