DTN Early Word Grains 02/14 06:00 Mixed Trade in Grains, Focus Remains on Ukraine March corn is steady, March soybeans are down 14 1/4 cents, and March KC wheat is up 9 1/2 cents. Tregg Cronin DTN Contributing Analyst Pre-6 a.m. Globex Prices: March corn is steady, March soybeans are down 14 1/4 cents, and March KC wheat is up 9 1/2 cents. CME Globex Recap: Global equity markets are sharply lower overnight with U.S. futures following suit. Financial media are blaming the weak stock trade on concerns over war in Ukraine, although commodities seem much less convinced as wheat markets have traded off their highs and crude oil reversed solid gains from early Sunday evening. Natural gas remains just off session highs, up 5.53% on the day. The U.S. Dollar Index is up overnight, working on its third daily gain in a row, climbing back above its 50-day moving average. The Russian ruble has been understandably volatile of late, climbing 0.4% overnight after selling off swiftly on Friday. Metals are mixed with copper down 1.0% while gold and silver are higher. Grain markets are mixed with wheat markets up while the soy complex is lower and corn is flat. News from the Black Sea and weather reports from South America should dominate trade flow this week. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes on Friday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 503.53 at 34,738.06 and the S&P 500 down 85.44 at 4,504.08 while the 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 1.955%. Early Monday, the March DJIA futures are down 226 points. Asian markets are lower with Japan's Nikkei 225 down 616.49 (-2.23%) and China's Shanghai Composite down 34.07 points (-0.98%). European markets are lower with London's FTSE 100 down 147.86 points (-1.93%), Germany's DAX down 498.52 points (-3.23%) and France's CAC 40 down 247.8 points (-3.53%). The March Euro is down 0.003 at 1.130 and the March U.S. dollar index is up 0.257 at 96.330. The March 30-Year T-Bond is up 14/32nds, while April gold is up $15.60 at $1,857.70 and March crude oil is down $0.21 at $92.89. Soybeans on China's Dalian Exchange were up 1.11% while soybean meal was down 0.15% and corn was up 0.04%.
