DTN Closing Grain Comments 08/17 13:42 Wheat Heads South Again on Better Rain Chances, Harvest; Soybeans With Modest Gain In slow trade, all three wheat markets followed the lead of Paris milling wheat futures and sold off yet again. The market could not maintain early strength, as rains in dry EU areas, better rain chances ahead of planting for the Southern Plains, and the advancing spring wheat harvest are weighing on wheat values. Soybeans and meal held minor gains, while bean oil fell despite the bounce in crude oil. Dana Mantini Senior Market Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: September corn closed up 4 cents per bushel and December corn was up 1 3/4 cents. September soybeans closed up 21 cents and November soybeans were up 9 cents. December KC wheat closed down 20 1/4 cents, September Chicago wheat was down 22 3/4 cents and September Minneapolis wheat was down 19 cents. The September U.S. Dollar Index is trading up 0.062 at 106.450. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 84.95 points at 34,067.06. December gold is down $9.70 at $1,780.00, September silver is down $0.27 at $19.82 and September copper is down $0.0340 at $3.5905. September crude oil is up $1.30 at $87.83, September heating oil is up $0.1222, September RBOB is up $0.0213 and September natural gas is down $0.066.
