DTN Closing Grain Comments 09/07 13:44 Wheat Surges Early Wednesday on Putin Talk, Nuclear Concern A combination of heavy criticism by Vladimir Putin of the Ukraine grain shipping agreement and a warning from the UN about the potential for a catastrophe at Ukraine's largest nuclear plant sent wheat skyward Wednesday. But values retreated from the highs. Corn rose early on more ideas of yields moving lower, before failing to hold big gains. Soybeans and bean oil faded on the falling energy prices and more bad economic news from China. Dana Mantini Senior Market Analyst GENERAL COMMENTS: September corn closed down 4 cents per bushel and December corn was down 5 cents. September soybeans closed down 23 1/4 cents and November soybeans were down 15 1/4 cents. December KC wheat closed up 19 1/2 cents, December Chicago wheat was up 27 1/4 cents and December Minneapolis wheat was up 13 cents. The September U.S. Dollar Index is trading down 0.449 at 109.755. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 406.40 points at 31,551.70. December gold is up $13.60 at $1,726.50, December silver is up $0.42 at $18.33 and December copper is down $0.0305 at $3.4315. October crude oil is down $4.99 at $81.89, October heating oil is up $0.0067, October RBOB is down $0.1072 and October natural gas is down $0.295.
