Nearby white wheat basis also remains firm as vessel nominations for west coast ports have exporters pushing bids to generate farm selling. Hard red winter 11.5% protein bids continue to gain on dark northern spring 14% protein bids, reflective of a larger spring wheat and smaller winter wheat crop. Crop Progress...With both winter and spring wheat harvest nearing the finish line across the Pacific Northwest, efforts are shifting toward the planting of winter wheat. Idaho is reported 12% planted, which is ahead of average by 2%; Oregon progress is on track with average at 5%, while Washington reports 26% of the crop sown which sets almost 10% behind the average pace. Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed a huge week of movement for U.S. wheat, registering 27 mb across all ports to put the year-to-date total at 235 mb and 11% behind a year ago. The top mover was red spring wheat with nearly 12 mb, followed by hard red winter with 8.8 mb and soft white wheat at 3.4 mb. The west coast shipping line-up showed traditional buyers, Japan and the Philippines, being top destinations with about 3 mb each. Other notables were China taking 2.3 mb and Indonesia and Yemen each taking on nearly a million bushels. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2022 DTN/Telvent. All Rights Reserved.
