LINCOLN, Neb. (DTN) -- Five of eight fertilizer prices tracked by DTN are on the downward slide in the second week of October compared to one month ago, with the starter fertilizer 10-34-0 continuing a significant drop for the second straight week.

The average price of 10-34-0 was $759 per ton for the second week of October, falling a whopping 12% from one month ago.

Three fertilizers recorded drops of about 2% or higher in price in the past month, including DAP, MAP and potash.

DAP's average price was $925/ton, down about 3% from one month ago. MAP's average price dropped to $986 a ton from $1,009 one month ago, or about 2%. The average price of potash dropped by about 2% to $863/ton. The average price of UAN28 fell fractionally from $578/ton to $576 in this update.

Three fertilizers recorded average price jumps of between 1% and 4% this month.

The average price of anhydrous spiked by about 4% to $1,417/ton since last month. Urea jumped in price by about 2% from $808/ton to $824. UAN 32's average price saw a 1% bump from $665/ton to $670.

Dow Jones reported this week that Brazilian ports have been building fertilizer stocks in their warehouses in recent months, pointing to lower domestic demand and buyers moving up their fertilizer purchases during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Dow Jones said total fertilizer imports to Brazil increased by about 3.8% to 27.9 million metric tons in the nine months through September compared to the same period last year, citing a report from Itau BBA. Dow Jones said China was the largest fertilizer supplier to Brazil in September, while Russia was the largest during the first nine months of 2022.
