A slowed pace of export demand is keeping all cash markets in check, and west coast export terminals have made a traditional shift to loading vessels for row crops from the midwest. Crop Progress...Winter wheat plantings across the Pacific Northwest saw minimal progress last week, as conditions remain dry. The overall pace of loadings, however, stands in line with average. Idaho reported 83% of the crop planted, Oregon at 71% and Washington 89% complete. Of those states, only Oregon reports emergence is below the average pace. Shipments...USDA showed that U.S. wheat shipments slowed considerably from the recent strong pace, coming in at 8.5 mb to put the year-to-date shipments at 344 mb and right on track with a year ago. Hard red winter was top shipper with 4.4 mb followed by hard red spring at 2.3 mb. West coast loading activity was clearly centered on soybean movement as China took on 35 mb of beans while white wheat loadings were less than half a million bushels. -Norm Ruhoff Contributing Analyst Copyright 2022 DTN/Telvent.
