DTN Early Word Grains 12/19 05:49 Grains Mostly Lower, China's COVID Problems Worsen March corn was down 4 cents, January soybeans were down 9 cents and March KC wheat was down 2 cents. Todd Hultman DTN Lead Analyst PRE-6 AM GLOBEX PRICES: March corn was down 4 cents, January soybeans were down 9 cents and March KC wheat was down 2 cents. CME GLOBEX RECAP: Early Monday, stock futures in the U.S. were trading higher, in line with European stocks, while stocks in Asia were lower, affected by worsening Covid problems in China. Trading may be quieter this week before Christmas, but there will be some earnings reports Tuesday, after last week's half-percent rate hike from the Fed. USDA's weekly report of export inspections is due out at 10 a.m. CST Monday. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Friday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 281.76 at 32,920.46 and the S&P 500 down 43.39 at 3,852.36, while the 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 3.48%, up from the lowest yield in three months. Early Monday, March Dow Jones futures are trading up 80 points. Asian markets are lower with Japan's Nikkei 225 index down 1.05% and China's Shanghai Composite Index down 1.92%. European markets are higher with the spot futures of the London FTSE 100 trading up 0.26%, spot futures of Germany's DAX trading up 0.44% and spot futures of France's CAC Index trading up 0.52%. The March euro is up $0.0056 at $1.0657. The March U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.51 at 104.15. The March 30-year T-bond is down 27/32nds, while February gold is up $5.10 at $1,805.30 and February crude oil is up $0.60 at $74.89. On China's Dalian exchange, January corn was down 0.1%, January soybeans were down 1.2%, January soybean meal was down 1.0% and January soybean oil was down 1.2%. February Malaysian palm oil is trading up 0.6%.
