DTN Early Word Grains 12/23 05:46 Crop Prices Start Higher, Central U.S. Gripped by Arctic Blast March corn was up 3 cents, January soybeans were up 4 cents and March KC wheat was up 5 cents. Todd Hultman DTN Lead Analyst PRE-6 AM GLOBEX PRICES: March corn was up 3 cents, January soybeans were up 4 cents and March KC wheat was up 5 cents. CME GLOBEX RECAP: Early Friday, stock futures in the U.S. were trading a little higher to start the final day of trading ahead of Christmas. Worries of recession and disappointment in tech sector earnings continues to weigh on stocks. Friday's reports include U.S. personal incomes and consumer spending, durable goods orders, new home sales and the University of Michigan's index of U.S. consumer sentiment. USDA will release cattle on-feed and hog inventories for December 1, both due out at 2 p.m. CST. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Thursday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 348.99 at 33,027.49 and the S&P 500 down 56.05 at 3,822.39, while the 10-Year Treasury yield ended at 3.67%, up from the lowest yield in three months. Early Friday, March Dow Jones futures are trading up 140 points. Asian markets are lower with Japan's Nikkei 225 index down 1.03% and China's Shanghai Composite Index down 0.28%. European markets are slightly higher with the spot futures of the London FTSE 100 trading up 0.13%, spot futures of Germany's DAX trading up 0.39% and spot futures of France's CAC Index trading up 0.02%. The March euro is up $0.0013 at $1.0670. The March U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.14 at 103.99. The March 30-year T-bond is down 19/32nds, while February gold is up $10.00 at $1,805.30 and February crude oil is up $1.50 at $78.99. On China's Dalian exchange, January corn was up 0.2%, January soybeans were up 0.3%, January soybean meal was up 0.1% and January soybean oil was down 1.3%. February Malaysian palm oil is trading down 2.1%.
