DTN Early Word Grains 01/19 05:40 Stocks, Commodities Mostly Lower Early Thursday March corn is down 2 1/2 cents, March soybeans are down 3 cents and March KC wheat is down 5 cents. Todd Hultman DTN Lead Analyst EARLY MORNING GLOBEX NET CHANGES: March corn is down 2 1/2 cents, March soybeans are down 3 cents and March KC wheat is down 5 cents. CME GLOBEX RECAP: Early Thursday, stock futures in the U.S. were trading lower along with Europe, extending this week's losses. U.S. stocks suffered a second day lower Wednesday after December retail sales were reported down 1.1%, bank stocks slid and Microsoft announced layoffs. Wednesday's Beige Book from the Fed said economic activity was relatively unchanged from the last report, while employment continued to grow. Reports later Thursday morning include weekly U.S. jobless claims, December housing starts, weekly inventories of natural gas and petroleum and USDA's Livestock, Dairy and Poultry Outlook. Thursday's earnings reports include Procter & Gamble, Netflix and several banks. OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Wednesday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 613.89 at 33,296.96 and the S&P 500 down 62.11 at 3,928.86, while the 10-Year Treasury yield fell to 3.37%, its lowest in four months. Early Thursday, March Dow Jones futures are down 180 points. Asian markets are mixed with Japan's Nikkei 225 index down 1.44% and China's Shanghai Composite Index up 0.49%. European markets are lower with the spot futures of the London FTSE 100 trading down 0.63%, spot futures of Germany's DAX trading down 0.92% and spot futures of France's CAC Index trading down 0.83%. The March euro is up $0.0026 at $1.0861. The March U.S. Dollar Index is down 0.15 at 101.96. The March 30-year T-bond is up 10/32nds, while February gold is up $4.00 at $1,911.0 and March crude oil is down $0.99 at $78.49. On China's Dalian exchange, March corn was down 0.2%, March soybeans were down 0.2%, May soybean meal was down 0.7% and May soybean oil was up 0.9%. March Malaysian palm oil is trading up 0.8%.
